My First Vlog

I'm so excited to publish this blog post today! I've enjoyed seeing other authors in action and hearing their "real" voices on videos, so I thought I'd make one of my own. Between phone calls, neighbors mowing their lawn and the dog barking, I had to do more takes on this thing than I'd care to admit, but here it is. :)

  1. Great job, Gabrielle! I'm glad to learn how to say your name. Since I speak some German, I said Gah bree el lah. Now I won't say it wrong when I meet you in person one day.

I enjoyed getting to see you and to learn more about you. You're a lovely young woman. You did a super job with your vlog. You come across as friendly, composed, and fun. And, wow, is your image ever crystal clear.

    1. There are so many different ways to pronounce Gabrielle - my parents chose the long a because they didn't want me to be called Gabby (which, interestingly, would describe me to a T!) :) Thank you for the wonderful compliments, Keli, I tried finding the best light in the house, I'm happy to know the image was clear.

    1. Thanks, Linds! :) I was a tour guide for over ten years and I'm so thankful for all the practice in public speaking. I can't wait to meet you, too.

  3. Gab!!!!!!!! You are soooo pretty! And it is so good to hear your voice and seeing you "physically". I haven't done a vlog because with my Texas accent, I sound like a goober. Makes me sound really stupid!!!! lol

    1. No way, Sherrinda! You can't possibly sound like a goober! I'd love to see you in person. :) (On a side note, my brothers used to call me Goobers when I was little.)

Thank you for the compliments and for stopping by today.

    1. Thanks, Wendy. I'm fortunate to have a bunch of friends with children of similar ages and it's such a blessing walking through all these parenting stages with them. Since the boys were born I've found three other moms who have twins boys all born within four months of mine. Support, whether for parenting or writing, is vital for me.

    1. Thanks, Jessica! I love that rocker, too. In the vlog I'm sitting in the room that overlooks the Mississippi and I love relaxing in that chair and watching the river roll by. Our house was built in the 1950's, but as we're remodeling it we're trying to capture the Arts & Crafts look.

    1. Thanks, Stacy! After working at the historic site for ten years I was blessed to be able to stay home full time with my kiddos, but I miss it. Thankfully it's just across the river and I'm able to visit often.

    1. Thanks, Joanne. The boys are in a really fun stage and they make me laugh numerous times a day! They are also in a very busy stage, which leaves me exhausted and ready for bed at night - I'm thankful my girls are very helpful.

    1. Thanks, Gwen! I've been thinking about doing it for a while, but had to do a little research on how to even record one. It was a lot easier than I anticipated. I can't wait to meet you via vlogging and in person! Good luck with the move.

  12. What fun! You did a great job! As you said, it does help us connect when we get to hear someone's voice and see something more than a picture. Maybe I'll get up the nerve to do a vlog one day. We'll see. :-) As for the shorten version of your name, is that Gab or Gabe?

    1. Thanks, Teri! I'd love to see your vlog - you'd also have to do a virtual tour of your beautiful bungalow. :) I've always written my name as Gabe. My mom laughed (and sighed) when I was little because she said she gave her daughters such beautiful, feminine names (Gabrielle and Andrea) but we were always called Gabe & Andy. :) The older I get, the more people call me Gabrielle and my sister is rarely called Andy any more. I like either.

  13. Oh, you're a natural, Gabrielle!! Love hearing your voice and "meeting" you more in person. I've been trying to work up the courage to do this, too, but am afraid my southern accent may be hard to understand. Plus I think I'd have so much on the cutting room floor it would never appear! But you give me hope, bless you! I hope you do more of these!!

    1. Thank you, Laura! Wow - this is a great experience - how often do you go into a new situation and "meet" people and hear them give you feedback on your personality and presentation immediately? :) Maybe sometimes it wouldn't be a good thing...

I would love to see you in action, Laura! You need to do a vlog - I know you'd be as charming as always. Thanks for stopping by today and joining in the conversation!

  17. What a wonderful vlog, Gabrielle! Like you say, it's great to have a voice to go with the face. : )

And like some others have mentioned, I was mispronouncing your name as well (with a short a, and a long L and at the end).

It's so nice to get to know you better, and I look forward to getting caught up on your previous posts. : )

  18. Thanks, Michelle! Most people pronounce Gabrielle with the short a sound, so I've always been thankful my parents made mine a little different. I've always loved my name. I hope my children can say the same thing when they're older. :)

  19. Wonderful vlog! It makes everything seem that much more personal. You are a natural indeed. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime, though I'm a bit bashful.
