I Can't Put it Down...

Have you ever started reading a book and become so enraptured by it that you suddenly look up at the clock and realize two hours have passed, without your notice? Have you ever closed a book at midnight, with a smile on your face, already looking forward to opening that same book the next day to find out what happens?

This just happened to me (not for the first time, I assure you). The only trouble is, I was going to write this blog post much earlier, and have something stupendous and marvelous to say, but I was too caught up in a book to remember to write it.

My apologies. As a way to make amends, I thought I'd share the name of this book with you, so that you, too, can enjoy a wonderful read and get caught up in a delightful story world and fore go all your other responsibilities.

The book is Short-Straw Bride by Karen Whitemeyer - one of my new, favorite authors. Every book I've read of hers has left me thoroughly satisfied. I'm only a quarter of the way through this one - but I can already tell you I'll be making room in my week to finish it.

What about you? Have you read Short-Straw Bride? Have you read any of Karen's other books? What book are you reading now?

Don't forget to join me on Friday! I've been busy taking some AMAZING pictures of Fall colors in Minnesota.

  1. I loved Short-Straw Bride. It's easy to see why Karen took home a Carol Award for this title. She's one of my must-read authors. She's also a really nice person.

  2. Keli - I had the opporuntity to hear a little bit of Karen's publishing story at ACFW when I went to the spotlight on Bethany House. She does seem like a very sweet lady - which makes me all the more excited to read her books! :)

  3. Love this book - in fact, I won a copy of it from Keli! I tore it open and read it the same weekend I received it and fell in love with those boys! It was my first Karen Witemeyer book, too, so guess what? Fell in love with Karen. Yep.

    Blessings - and happy reading!

  4. I absolutely loved the Short Straw Bride! I loved the drama, the love story, the heart of the book! I'm wondering if there will be a story about the brothers. :)

  5. I haven't read it, but I've heard great things about it!

  6. I've read it and loved just like all of Karen's books. She is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I can't wait for her next book.

  7. I haven't read this one yet, but I do love Karen Witemeyer! :) I felt that way when I read Proof by Jordyn Redwood.

  8. Almost bought this at ACFW. Will buy today! Thanks, Gabrielle!

  9. I read it when I was on vacation! It's fabulous. I have chatted with Karen during one of Bethany's chats, and loved hearing her publishing story.

And yes, I've had many a book that I couldn't put down!! It's so fun to get fully immersed in another world for awhile.

  10. What a fun surprise to see this post and so many fun comments! You gals are the best!!

Gabrielle - So glad you came to the the Bethany House spotlight. They are such a great publishing house to work for. I LOVE them!

Sherrinda - Good News! There WILL be another Archer book. Hooray!! I convinced my editor to let me write Crockett's story, so be looking for STEALING THE PREACHER in June 2013! Oh, and I'm working on a little something for Neill, too, but it's all hush hush for now. I'm sure I can trust you to keep my secret, though, right? :-)

  11. Oh yes, yes, yes, I had the exact same reaction to Short-straw Bride. Couldn't put it down...and totally fell in love with the hero. :)

  12. I've read all of Karen's books but this one. It's for sure on my to-read list! Sounds like a really good one.

  13. I think getting lost to a book is the perfect excuse for a writer not to get to her blog post in the way she'd intended *ahem* not that that's every happened to me ;)

  14. Oohhh, I have Short-Straw Bride on my Kindle and can't wait to start it. My TBR pile has demanded other books come first, but now I know to block out a huge chunk of time whenever I start Karen't book. :)

  15. Oops, meant to type *Karen's book*, not Karen't. It's like "aren't" with a K. :)

  16. Becky - I've only read the first quarter of the book, but I'm already falling in love with Travis - and the rest of the Archer boys. I can't wait to see what happens!!

Sherrinda - it has such a sweet spirit about it, doesn't it? I love all the characters and I've already had my eye on Crockett - I wonder what his story will be?!?!

Julie - get it, get it!!

Carissa - hello! Thank you for stopping by today. Karen has become one of my favorite authors - I love all of her stories. I'm so happy you've discovered her, as well.

Jessica - I'm highly recommending this book! Get thee to the store (or your Kindle) and buy this book!!

Amy - I'm so happy you saw this blog post and that you'll be buying Karen's book - it really is a very sweet book. I know you'll love it!

Lindsay - I think I heard you talking about this book. I'd heard so many good things about it, I knew I needed to get it for myself. :)

Karen - thank you for stopping by to chat today! I'm happy I went to the Spotlight on Bethany, too (one of my top dream publishing houses since I was a little girl!) and I'm happy I bought Short-Straw Bride. I don't know if you remember me, but I introduced myself at one of the last ACFW meals and told you I had just bought the book and it was one of the first ones I wasn't obligated to review in a long time - so it was a simply for fun read! I couldn't help but share it with everyone! AND - I can't wait for the next book about Crockett!! He's already intrigued me!

Melissa - I remember you raving about this book, too! Word of mouth is the best marketing tool.

Stacy - I know you'll love it - especially if you love Karen's other books!

Johanna - :) It is a good reason to forget to post!

Sarah - I know! I wish I had more time to devote to it - but I'm also trying to finish up my own editing by the end of the month, so I'll have to for go some sleep to finish the book (but I'm not complaining - it's worth it)!

  17. I've been wanting to read this one! So glad you're enjoying it. :-)

  18. Yay, Karen!!! I'm so excited to hear this news!!!! Thanks for filling us in!

  19. I have Gabrielle!!! SOO happy to know that you liked it. Karen is definitely a fav and I LOVED this one!

Glad to have seen this post. *Smiling*
