Friday Fun: Minnesota Style

It's Friday again! Where is the summer going? School supplies are already on the shelves at the store. What?!?! Thankfully we still have another five weeks of summer vacation to enjoy - even if Wal Mart doesn't agree.

I'm excited to share more Minnesota with all of you! This week I am taking you to one of my favorite places. These pictures were taken as we drove to my in-law's home on the lake and then from their backyard.

This lake is especially important because David's grandfather bought a cabin in the 1960's and raised his family here. When David's dad had a family, he bought his own cabin and eventually tore it down and built a year round residence. When I dated my husband we spent hours and hours on this lake and fell in love here. Our children are the fourth generation of Meyers to enjoy this beautiful place.

David and I rented the house on this farm right after we left
college in Iowa and moved back to Minnesota. It's a Century
Farm and has been in the same family since it was built.

This is one of my favorite roads, it leads
right up to my in-law's driveway.

David's mom and our daughters went down to greet
Dave's aunt & unlce and their children when they
came by to visit, via lake!

My hubby and kiddos swimming in the lake
 - a family tradition.

A beautiful end to a beautiful day at the lake.

What about you? Do you have a home or property that's been in the family for many generations?

  1. Aww, pretty photos. No, we don't have a family home that's been in the family for generations, but it is fun to drive past old family houses and wonder what the new owners have done to the inside. :)

  2. Your pictures are so beautiful. I've never been to Minnesota but it looks just gorgeous. I hope to one day! So cute seeing the kiddos swim in the lake with their daddy. And that hammock looks irresistible!

  3. Wow, can I come visit?! It looks beautiful there.

No place that I know of that's been in the family for generations, but I love going to my grandma's house, which is the same house my dad grew up in. So cozy and so much love in that house. It just feels like a second home since I've been going there since before I can remember. :)

  5. Ahhh, I'm breathing deep just looking at your beautiful photos - especially the one where you (or your feet, that is - LOL) are sitting looking out over the lake. There's just something about water that soothes and hydrates us from the inside out. I hope that breathtaking place remains in your family for many, many more generations.

  8. Still having trouble leaving individual replies here!

Melissa - I love driving past old places and wondering the same - sometimes my husband tells me that I'm being too nosy, but I can't help it! The same imagination and curiosity that propels my storytelling propels my nosiness! :)

Joanne - I love that our children have deep roots in their home. I don't know if they'll choose to stay here, or if God has plans to bring them to other places, but for now, I want them to love where they've been planted. Minnesota is so lovely, I hope you can come sometime - and, yes, the hammock is heavenly.

Lindsay - I'd love for you to come visit! My grandma has been living in the same home since 1959 and I know what you mean.

Cindy - I love trees to, and I missed them when we lived in central Iowa! Trees and water. :) Thanks so much for letting me know about my win! A great way to kick off the weekend.

Donna - don't let the pictures deceive you...I still have two year old twins that I have to keep out of the water, so it's not as relaxing as it can be! Ha! :) I hope it stays in the family for many, many more generations to come, as well.

    Loree - ahh...the hammock. :)

Cheryl - thanks for stopping by! You have a lovely blog and I look forward to following you!

  9. We live in Maine and absolutely love it!. We are originally from Massachusetts. My parents bought a place by the lake (reminds me much of your lake) we would come for weekends and vacations. Our kids called it "up in Maine". Now we all live up in Maine, having followed my parents after retirement. It is a wonderful blessing to have a place with such great memories for generations, and new ones are on their way.

  10. No, no family home. But I love the pictures of Minnesota! That is my home state, though I live in TN now. Thanks for sharing a piece of home.
